HEARTBREAKING: Alabama High School Mourns Cheerleader Kimber Mills After Tragic Shooting
Hundreds of students at an Alabama high school lined the halls of a local hospital this week to say their final goodbyes to 18-year-old Kimber Mills — a beloved cheerleader, senior student, and friend to many — after she was fatally shot at a weekend party.
Kimber was struck in the leg and head when gunfire erupted following a fight at the gathering. Authorities have arrested and charged 27-year-old Steven Tyler Whitehead with murder and three counts of attempted murder in connection with the tragedy.
Kimber was rushed to the hospital and placed on life support. Her family shared that she passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, after being taken off support.
“She had the biggest gathering for her Honor Walk the doctor has ever seen,” her sister said. “She was and is so loved by so many. We will miss you, Kimber.”

Her Honor Walk — the final moment for organ donors, where staff and loved ones gather as the donor is wheeled to the operating room — was attended by hundreds. The hospital confirmed it was one of the largest gatherings they’d ever witnessed.
“She was a light,” one of her classmates said. “The kind of person who made people feel seen and safe. We can’t believe she’s gone.”
As the community mourns, vigils and memorials are being planned to celebrate Kimber’s life. The high school cheer team has retired her uniform number in her memory, and her family has announced a scholarship fund in her name to support young women pursuing college athletics and leadership roles.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and more details are expected in the coming days. In the meantime, Kimber’s school and family are asking for prayers, peace, and remembrance.
