Jon Stewart used The Daily Show to take a pointed jab at the Trump administration over the mysterious disappearance of the Jeffrey Epstein list, following claims from Elon Musk that Trump’s name appeared on it.

Stewart’s Satire

On Monday night, Stewart highlighted a recent DOJ and FBI memo — obtained by Axios — that dismissed theories about Epstein keeping a client list, using blackmail, or being murdered. “There was no list,” Stewart joked, feigning hypnosis. He then played footage from February 2025 of Attorney General Pam Bondi claiming to have the Epstein list on her desk. Stewart mocked the contradiction, imitating Bondi: “The list is on my desk… but then I looked at the list and went, ‘No list!’”

The Musk Connection

The segment came after Musk, who briefly worked in the Trump administration, tweeted in June: “@realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public.” Musk later deleted the post, but not before fueling conspiracy chatter. In an NBC interview, Trump dismissed the claim as “old news,” asserting that even Epstein’s lawyer said he had nothing to do with it.

Revisiting the Trump–Epstein Ties

Stewart’s show replayed the infamous photo of Trump with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, as well as a 2024 interview where Trump appeared evasive about declassifying the files. Correspondent Ronny Chieng called Trump’s response “a bit suspicious.”

The Larger Feud

Musk’s jab at Trump followed his criticism of Trump’s legislative policy as a “disgusting abomination.” After a brief exchange of jabs on social media — including Musk retweeting old Trump posts critical of GOP debt ceiling hikes — the two appeared to cool off.

Why It Matters

Stewart’s comedic takedown underscores ongoing public skepticism about the Epstein case and its political implications. Between Musk’s deleted tweet, Bondi’s conflicting statements, and the DOJ’s denial of any list, the segment amplified suspicions that some truths remain buried — and that Stewart is more than willing to call out the inconsistencies.
