With The Late Show with Stephen Colbert officially ending in May, the Emmy-winning host is already teasing his next career chapter — and aiming his pitch squarely at streaming giants.

During his summer hiatus send-off, Colbert joked that he’s ā€œwaiting to hear from Netflix and Amazonā€ after CBS canceled the iconic late-night franchise. ā€œNetflix, call me, I’m available in June,ā€ he quipped, later adding, ā€œI will also entertain offers from Amazon.ā€

Trading Jabs With Trump

The comments came days after President Trump took another shot at the late-night lineup from the White House, declaring, ā€œColbert has no talent, Fallon has no talent, Kimmel has no talent… they’re next.ā€ Trump acknowledged Colbert’s higher ratings than Fallon or Kimmel, to which Colbert deadpanned: ā€œTo be fair, I think we’re all equally untalented. Thank you for watching, sir, and for agreeing to be in our new promo.ā€

The faux promo displayed the tagline: ā€œStephen Colbert is number one in late-night, just ask our elderly viewers,ā€ followed by a ā€œStill Canceledā€ stamp.

Future in Streaming?

While Colbert’s tongue-in-cheek remarks drew laughs, speculation is mounting over his next move. Industry watchers point to David Letterman’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction on Netflix and Conan O’Brien’s HBO Max travel series as possible blueprints for a Colbert streaming project.

CBS Speaks Out

Following Skydance’s acquisition of Paramount, CBS CEO George Cheeks finally addressed the decision to end The Late Show. ā€œThe challenge in late night is that the advertising marketplace is in significant secular decline,ā€ Cheeks explained. ā€œWe are huge fans of Colbert, we love the show — unfortunately the economics made it a challenge for us to keep going.ā€
